Excellence Award Button

Navajo Nation/ADOT/BIA/FHWA Partnership is a recipient of the AZ Transportation Partnering Excellence Award. The Partnership is a unique effort that brings together key stakeholders who are committed to improve tribal-state-federal coordination, cooperation and consultation as outlined in current federal and state legislation and policy. The partnership addresses transportation issues at a very detailed level while considering cultural values. Foremost, it develops a foundation for ongoing interaction and improved working relationships among all partners by combining technical and financial resources as well as representative agency support for one another. Furthermore, the partnering effort has become a model for similar tribal-state partnership efforts statewide and nationwide.

A major step forward for the Navajo Nation/ADOT/BIA/FHWA Partnership was the drafting and final approval of the MOU between ADOT and the Navajo Nation. This provided the framework for future agreements and how the partners will work together in a more formal government-to-government setting.
